Located in Cleveland, North Dakota, TMT Farms stands as a testament to what can happen when you combine resilience and ingenuity with a passion for family farming. Founded in the 1980s, the farm began as a modest operation focused on dry edible beans.
Today, TMT Farms has evolved into a multifaceted agricultural enterprise. Now, the next generation of Wanzeks—including Ryan Wanzek and several of his family members—carrys the farm’s enduring legacy forward together, working side by side to drive continued success. The operation’s commitment to family is demonstrated almost everywhere you look, from the integrity with which tasks are completed all the way down to the entity’s name.

“TMT was started by my dad, my uncle, and my grandpa,” shared Ryan. “That’s, ‘Terry, Marvin, Tracy’...that’s where the name TMT came from.”
The energy of those founders can be experienced in the daily work of the farm as the current generation collaborates closely, each bringing unique strengths to the operation. Today, TMT Farms not only cultivates a variety of crops, but also processes and markets them globally through their subsidiary, TMT Bean & Seed Co.
The Wanzek family's journey into farming began with a shared vision to overcome the challenges of the era. In the 1980s, seeking to diversify and find a sustainable niche, they ventured into the cultivation of pinto beans. The family gradually honed their expertise, leading to a successful and profitable venture. By 1996, recognizing the potential for value-added processing, they established a bean plant in Windsor, ND, which has since expanded to accommodate the growing demand for their high-quality beans. With such tremendous growth, the need for trustworthy farming equipment has been paramount.

“John Deere equipment is one of the biggest reasons we’re able to get [in] way more acres in a day than we ever could have dreamed of even 20 years ago,” Ryan said.
Pinto beans remain the group’s flagship product, but having diversified the farm’s crop portfolio by integrating soybeans, corn and wheat into the rotation, TMT now ships high-quality beans across the U.S. and around the world. What an inspiration it is to see how a united family vision can thrive on a global scale.

A commitment to quality has not only bolstered the group’s reputation but has also ensured the sustainability of their farming practices. This has allowed TMT Farms to thrive while continually adapting to the landscape of modern agriculture.
“Without the equipment and the technologies in this equipment now…it’s just so much more efficient than even when I started,” said Ryan. “[The] ability to be able to control and watch our entire farm on my cell phone is something that I never thought would matter, but I can utilize it to find out if people need fuel [or] if they need seed. Everything goes into efficiency and out here, time is money.”
